Afghanistan, July 5 -- France advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals after a second-half penalty from Kylian Mbappe gave them a 1-0 win over Paraguay in Philadelphia on Saturday, setting up a last-eight meeting with Morocco.

Reuters reported that Mbappe converted from the spot in the second half as France came through a tense Round of 16 match played in difficult heat. The result kept France in the tournament and ended Paraguay's campaign after their progress to the knockout stage.
