Afghanistan, June 9 -- A fire that broke out in a market in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province has caused significant financial losses to local traders and shopkeepers, residents said on Tuesday.
Residents stated that the blaze erupted early Tuesday morning in the Lakano market area of Khost. Witnesses said the fire spread rapidly through the commercial district, damaging and destroying numerous shops before residents managed to bring it under control.
According to residents, the fire threatened to engulf a larger section of the market, but local people intervened and helped prevent further destruction. No casualties have been reported so far, though the incident left many business owners facing substantial financial losses.
