Afghanistan, April 15 -- The Wall Street Journal reported that European countries are accelerating efforts to safeguard their defence capabilities amid concerns over a potential reduction of the United States role in NATO.
The report said European officials are working on a plan often described as a "European NATO," aimed at strengthening regional leadership roles and gradually replacing reliance on U.S. military assets and command structures.
According to the report, the initiative began taking shape last year but has gained urgency following statements and policies by Donald Trump, including criticism of allies and security-related tensions during the Iran conflict.
