Afghanistan, June 8 -- European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has called on Iran and Israel to avoid further escalation and return to diplomacy after a renewed exchange of missile and air strikes raised fears of a wider regional conflict.

According to Al Jazeera, Kallas warned on Monday that continued military action could further destabilize the Middle East and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

The appeal came after the Israeli military said Iran had launched missiles toward Israeli territory overnight. Hours later, Fox News reported that Israeli forces carried out air strikes in western and central Iran in response to the attacks.
