Afghanistan, May 14 -- The European Union delegation in Afghanistan has expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian and economic situation in the country, citing a recent report by the United Nations Development Programme.

In a statement released on Thursday, the EU delegation said Afghans continue to face severe challenges, including widespread poverty, food insecurity, climate-related shocks, displacement and restrictions imposed on women and girls under Taliban rule.

The European Union reiterated calls for the removal of restrictions on women and girls, warning that continued limits on education, employment and freedom of movement were worsening Afghanistan's economic decline and humanitarian crisis.
