Afghanistan, June 15 -- The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded 72 new confirmed Ebola cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the current outbreak to 782, according to official government data.

Health authorities said 181 people have died from the virus since the outbreak began, underscoring the continuing public health challenge facing the country.

Official figures show that the outbreak remains concentrated in three eastern provinces; Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu - which have experienced repeated Ebola outbreaks and other health emergencies in recent years.
