Afghanistan, May 21 -- A federal court in Australia upheld an online safety penalty against X, formerly known as Twitter, after the company admitted violating the country's online safety regulations.

The court said X failed to provide sufficient information about measures aimed at protecting children from online sexual exploitation and abuse.

The case began in October 2023 when Australia's online safety regulator issued a fine of 610,500 Australian dollars against the platform over inadequate responses to questions related to child protection efforts.

Federal Court Judge Michael Wheelahan increased the penalty to 650,000 Australian dollars and ordered X to pay an additional 100,000 Australian dollars in legal costs.
