Afghanistan, June 21 -- At least 30 people have died since early May in the Kigunze displacement camp near Bunia in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, raising fears of a possible Ebola outbreak and prompting concern among health officials and aid agencies.
According to a Reuters report, some of the victims were believed to have been infected with Ebola, although health authorities have been unable to confirm the cause of all deaths because some patients and their families refused medical testing. Camp officials said many of the deceased showed symptoms including fever, headaches and vomiting, which are commonly associated with the virus.
