Afghanistan, July 7 -- At least 25 people were killed and nearly 100 others injured after two days of violent clashes between inmates at a prison in Sri Lanka, authorities said on Monday, prompting a major security operation to restore order at one of the country's correctional facilities.

According to Reuters, the violence broke out between convicted prisoners and detainees being held in temporary custody. The unrest began on Sunday before escalating into a second and far deadlier wave of fighting on Monday.
