Afghanistan, July 5 -- Millions of Americans celebrated the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence on Saturday with parades, concerts and fireworks across the country, despite severe summer storms that delayed official events in Washington, where President Donald Trump addressed the nation during the commemorations.
According to Reuters, thunderstorms forced security officials to temporarily evacuate visitors gathered near the Washington Monument on the National Mall before the evening program began. Attendees were directed to seek shelter as lightning and heavy rain moved through the area, delaying the start of the event by about an hour.
