Afghanistan, Aug. 18 -- An Afghan national has been sentenced to 51 days in prison in the United States after illegally crossing into the country from Canada, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York.

The office said Monday that Khan Afzal Ahmadzai, 30, of Kabul, entered the United States on June 3 by walking across the international border near Champlain, New York, without undergoing immigration or customs inspection.

US Border Patrol agents arrested Ahmadzai after he entered the country, prosecutors said. He later pleaded guilty to illegally entering the United States and was sentenced to 51 days in prison.
