Afghanistan, July 8 -- A Scottish court has convicted a former interpreter for British forces in Afghanistan of raping a 19-year-old woman in Edinburgh after a jury unanimously found him guilty, court records showed.

The 35-year-old defendant, originally from Afghanistan, was convicted following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh over an attack that prosecutors said occurred about four years ago.

According to court proceedings, the woman entered the defendant's taxi intending to travel to her destination. Prosecutors said he made unwanted sexual advances during the journey before driving to a secluded area on the outskirts of the city instead of following the agreed route.
