Afghanistan, Aug. 19 -- Former Afghanistan High Council for National Reconciliation chairman Abdullah Abdullah has called for greater national unity and solidarity as Afghanistan marks the 107th anniversary of the restoration of its independence from British control.

In a message posted on Facebook on Wednesday, August 19, Abdullah said the anniversary was an opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by generations of Afghans in pursuit of freedom, justice and equality.

He said Afghanistan's independence was achieved through the struggles and sacrifices of previous generations and urged Afghans to preserve national unity and solidarity while working toward a better future.
