Afghanistan, June 12 -- A bipartisan group of 83 U.S. lawmakers has urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to suspend plans to relocate Afghan refugees from Qatar to the Democratic Republic of the Congo until Congress receives full details about the proposal.

In a letter sent on Thursday, lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties requested that the State Department provide legal, technical and humanitarian information about the plan before any transfers take place. The request focuses on around 1,100 Afghan refugees who have spent more than four years at the Al Sailiya camp in Qatar awaiting resettlement in the United States.
