Afghanistan, May 24 -- Pakistani police said at least 29 people were killed during heavy clashes between security forces and armed militants in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Authorities said the fighting erupted in the Barakzai Akhundkhel area of Miryan, leaving 25 militants, two police officers and two civilians dead, while at least 10 others were injured, including seven police personnel.

Police said militants had set up road barricades in several areas before security forces launched clearance operations. Pakistani officials claimed two senior militant commanders, identified as Zamri Noor and Abdullah, were killed during the operation.
