Srinagar, May 29 -- A truck plunged into a deep gorge from a considerable height at Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Kargil Highway on Friday, officials said.

The accident occurred in the Zojila sector, triggering an immediate response from police and local authorities, they said.

Officials said the truck skidded off the pass and fell into the gorge under circumstances that were not immediately clear.

Police teams rushed to the spot and launched efforts to collect details about the incident, they added.

The number of persons onboard the vehicle was not immediately known, and authorities were working to ascertain whether any casualties or injuries had occurred, officials said.
