Srinagar, May 23 -- Tithwal Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour in the Tangdhar-Karnah region on Saturday, with officials emphasising a renewed community commitment to the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan', a defence spokesman said.

The commemorative events began with a marathon organised separately for men and women, flagged off from Chamkote and culminating at the Tithwal War Memorial, the spokesman said. Over 300 men and 50 women from across the region participated in the run, he added.

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was subsequently held at the war memorial, where tributes were paid to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, the spokesman said.
