Police foil BJP protest against wine shops in Srinagar
Srinagar, May 15 -- Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday held a protest in Srinagar against the sale of liquor in Kashmir, demanding a complete ban on wine shops in the Valley.
The protest march started from the Ram Munshibagh area in Sonwar and proceeded towards Gupkar Road, where the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is located.
Led by party leaders and workers, the protesters raised slogans against the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference government and accused it of encouraging liquor sales despite opposition from various sections of society.
Police later intercepted the march and foiled the protest before the demonstrators could move further towards Gupkar, officials said.
