Srinagar, April 27 -- The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Monday quashed the preventive detention of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), holding that the grounds for invoking the stringent law were not sustainable.
Malik, who represents the Doda constituency, was detained on September 8, 2025, on allegations related to public order. He was initially lodged in Bhaderwah jail and later shifted to Kathua district jail.
The legislator had approached the High Court through a habeas corpus petition, challenging the detention order as arbitrary and violative of his legal rights.
