Srinagar, April 15 -- President People's Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to fulfil the long-pending promise of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that several governance and developmental issues continue to affect the people due to the delay.

In a statement issued here, Hakeem said that the restoration of statehood must be taken up on priority and implemented with "respect and dignity" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He asserted that continued uncertainty over the political status is hampering administrative efficiency, democratic functioning, and public confidence.
