Sopore, May 4 -- Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Kashmir Range (NKR), Dr. Vinod Kumar, on Monday directed officers in Police District Sopore to intensify action against the narcotics trade under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, officials said.

Chairing a comprehensive security and crime review meeting - his first field visit to the district after assuming charge - the DIG stressed that sustained action against drug peddlers was equally critical as maintaining the security grid.

"The drug trade is destroying our youth. Enforcement must be relentless and prosecution must be effective," Dr. Kumar told officers, including SSP Sopore Iftkhar Talib, Addl SP Sopore, SDPOs, DySP Operations and SHOs of the district.
