Srinagar, May 12 -- Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday called for a ban on alcohol in the Union Territory, asserting that the elected government must take the decision instead of shifting the blame.
Describing alcohol as the "biggest addiction", Altaf Bukhari said the Lieutenant Governor is working to make J&K a drug-free state, and the elected dispensation should complement the effort by prohibiting liquor.
"We are Muslims. It is not permissible for Muslims. Why are they afraid? If they don't get revenue from alcohol, it won't matter," he told News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
Citing Gujarat and Bihar, he said both states are dry and it is a matter of "doing and not doing".
