JAMMU, Aug. 24 -- Two "notorious" drug peddlers were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act, while five persons were arrested after narcotic substances were recovered from their possession in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

Uttam Kumar, a resident of Mand village, was detained under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act on the orders of competent authority in Udhampur district on Sunday, a police spokesman said.

Kumar, a notorious drug peddler, has been subsequently lodged in district jail, Bhaderwah, he said.
