Srinagar, Aug. 13 -- The rivers of Kashmir are under strain, and the decline of the snow trout reflects the scale of disruption. Mining, construction, pollution, and shifting climate patterns have weakened habitats that once supported diverse aquatic life. The development of a breeding and rearing protocol for snow trout is a step that changes the trajectory. It creates a method to produce seed under controlled conditions, reducing dependence on wild stocks and opening the way for restocking programmes. Fertilisation, hatching, and survival rates achieved in trials show that the species can be sustained in captivity and later released to strengthen natural populations.
