SRINAGAR, Oct. 6 -- The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has made home composting mandatory for its gazetted officers, wherever practicable, as part of efforts to strengthen source-level waste management and promote decentralised processing of biodegradable waste.
According to an order issued by SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, all gazetted officers have been directed to segregate biodegradable and wet waste generated at their residences and process it through scientifically suitable home-composting methods.
The civic body said the measure is intended to reduce the volume of wet waste transported to municipal processing facilities and encourage environmentally sustainable waste-management practices.
