Srinagar, May 17 -- A probationary sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly shot his wife dead following a domestic dispute and later attempted suicide in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.
The accused officer has been identified as Deep Singh, who was posted at a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of Kupwara.
Officials said the incident took place late Friday night after an argument broke out between Singh and his wife, Bhawana, at their residence.
"In a fit of rage, the officer allegedly opened fire on his wife, resulting in her death on the spot," an official said.
After the shooting, Singh allegedly turned the weapon on himself and sustained critical injuries.
