Banihal, May 20 -- A passenger bus skidded off the road and overturned in the Sangaldan mountainous belt of Ramban district on Tuesday, leaving the conductor dead and 19 others injured, officials said.

The bus was on its way to Jammu from Dharam in Gool when the accident took place near the Sangaldan police post.

Soon after the incident, police and local residents launched a rescue operation and shifted 19 injured people to nearby medical facilities, they said.

The deceased was identified as bus conductor Ashu Singh, a resident of Panara in Udhampur district.
