Srinagar, Sept. 4 -- The death of a 28-year-old motorcyclist in Srinagar on Thursday has once again highlighted the growing road-safety concerns surrounding two-wheeler riders in Kashmir, where motorcycle and scooty accidents continue to claim lives and leave hundreds injured every year.
Official data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2024 recorded 840 road accident deaths in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 202 involved two-wheeler occupants, accounting for nearly one-fourth of all road fatalities in the Union Territory. The data also recorded 2,198 injuries among two-wheeler riders and passengers.
