Srinagar, June 3 -- A man was killed and his wife injured after a tree fell on them as strong winds lashed Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.

The incident happened in the Ganjiwara area of the south Kashmir district when a poplar tree fell on a CRPF bunker, injuring two civilians - Mohammad Rafiq and his wife Mareena from Brariangan.

No CRPF personnel were injured in the incident.

The couple was shifted to the GMCH in Anantnag, where Rafiq died of his injuries, the officials said.

The fallen tree halted traffic for some time, they said.
