Kishtwar, Aug. 16 -- Five persons were killed after a Scorpio vehicle plunged into a deep gorge at Yaivan near Tender Nallah in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.

The accident occurred when the vehicle (registration number HR29AG-0648) reportedly went out of control and rolled into the gorge.

All five occupants are believed to have died on the spot.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and launched relief and retrieval operations. The identities of the deceased were yet to be officially ascertained, while the exact cause of the accident was under investigation.

The vehicle was initially reported missing before being traced in the gorge during the rescue operation.
