SRINAGAR, Sept. 28 -- The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has sought Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's intervention for the revival of Jammu and Kashmir's poultry industry, saying the sector is facing a steady decline in local production and growing dependence on supplies from outside the Union Territory.

In a statement, FCIK said the poultry sector had once moved close to self-sufficiency due to supportive policy measures, including a levy on poultry imports into J&K. According to industry representatives, local production had increased from around 15 per cent of consumption to over 85 per cent during that period.
