Farooq Abdullah seeks restoration of J&K's special status, statehood
SRINAGAR, Sept. 14 -- Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday urged the Union Government to take what he described as meaningful steps to address growing alienation and distrust among people in Jammu and Kashmir, while reiterating his party's demand for restoration of the region's special status and statehood.
In a statement, Abdullah said that although elections had been held in Jammu and Kashmir, the elected government had not been vested with full powers even after two years, a situation he termed contrary to democratic and constitutional principles.
