Srinagar, May 17 -- A probationary sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly shot his wife dead following a domestic quarrel and later attempted suicide in North Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.

According to the details, the accused officer, identified as Deep Singh, was posted at a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of the district. "The incident took place late on Friday night after an argument broke out between Singh and his wife, Bhawana, at their residence," said an official.

"In a fit of rage, the officer allegedly opened fire on his wife, resulting in her death on the spot," he added.
