SRINAGAR, July 12 -- Cloudbursts in south Kashmir on Saturday triggered flash floods in Nallah Arpat in Shangus and a sudden surge in the water level of Nallah Avoora in Pahalgam, officials said.

Officials told the news agency GNS that all concerned departments have been put on alert and rescue and monitoring teams have been deployed in vulnerable areas to assess the situation.

In Pahalgam, tourists staying at a hotel along the bank of Nallah Avoora remained safe after the sudden rise in the water level caused panic in the area. Authorities said the situation was being closely monitored and an assessment of the impact was underway.
