Mumbai, Oct. 18 -- The project includes a 765/400/220 kV substation in Nawada, Bihar, and a 765 kV switching station in Durgapur, West Bengal.

REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of power financier REC Ltd, has handed over Nawada Durgapur Power Transmission Ltd, the project-specific special purpose vehicle (SPV), to Shivalaya Construction Ltd on October 16.

Shivalaya Construction emerged as the successful bidder through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which acted as bid process coordinator for the development of the inter-state transmission project under the Eastern Region Expansion Scheme (ERES)-47. The Nawada-Durgapur-Jeerat (New) 765 kV corridor will be implemented on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis.

The project envisages establishing a new 765/400/220 kV substation at Nawada, Bihar, and a new 765 kV switching station at Durgapur, West Bengal. It also includes a 765 kV direct current line from Nawada to Durgapur spanning nearly 265 km and another 765 kV line from Durgapur to Jeerat covering about 145 km, along with associated works.

Together, these assets will strengthen the eastern grid and form part of a high-capacity transmission ring designed to improve reliability and power flow across the region. The project is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2029.
