Mumbai, Sept. 5 -- III of the Buxar Thermal Power Project's railway infrastructure, RVNL will deliver the works within 36 months.

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), the Ministry of Railways-owned engineering company, has received a letter of award worth Rs.90.3 billion from SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd (STPL). The contract involves the construction of a permanent railway siding along with rail-over-rail (ROR) connectivity from the plant boundary of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project to Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur in Buxar district, Bihar.

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, has an installed capacity of 1,320 MW and is being implemented by SJVN Thermal, a wholly owned subsidiary of state-run hydropower major SJVN Ltd. According to the parent company SJVN, the project will substantially enhance power availability in Bihar and the eastern region. The first 660 MW unit achieved commercial operation on November 14, 2025, while work on the second 660 MW unit is progressing.

Commenting on the contract, Saleem Ahmad, Chairman & Managing Director, RVNL, said, "The Buxar project is a reflection of this larger commitment, as we continue to contribute to the development of robust infrastructure across the country."

The project, part of Phase-III of the railway infrastructure for the Buxar Thermal Power Project, will be executed by RVNL within 36 months. The scope includes construction of the permanent siding and associated railway infrastructure, including roadbed, minor bridges, limited-height subways (LHS), platforms, station buildings, foot overbridges and other allied civil works.

The project will provide dedicated rail connectivity from the Buxar Thermal Power Project to the existing East Central Railway network through Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur. The route connects onward through Buxar and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction with the wider national railway network.

The ROR component will facilitate integration with the existing railway infrastructure while enabling operations to continue safely and efficiently. The dedicated railway infrastructure will strengthen the rail-based logistics chain between the coal-producing region and the power generation facility in Bihar.
