Mumbai, Oct. 26 -- The contracts involve the turnkey execution of 800 kV HVDC transmission lines, a critical component of India's expanding long-distance power transmission network.

Jyoti Structures Ltd (JSL), a listed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company specialising in power transmission infrastructure, has received notifications of award (NOAs) worth Rs.9.49 billion from Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd for two transmission packages under the 800 kV High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Bipole Barmer-II-South Kalamb transmission project in Rajasthan.

The awards comprise Lot 1 under Transmission Line (TL)-01, valued at Rs.4.75 billion, and Lot 2 under TL-02, valued at Rs.4.74 billion. The scope includes the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 800 kV HVDC transmission lines on a turnkey basis. Both contracts carry a completion period of 38 months from the date of their respective notifications of award.

Commenting on the development, Amit Dutta, COO, Jyoti Structures, said, "We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to India's transmission infrastructure through projects of this scale. Our experience in the sector guides our approach to infrastructure project delivery. We look forward to working closely with Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd to deliver these projects as planned."

High-voltage direct current technology enables the transmission of large volumes of electricity across long distances with lower transmission losses, making it an important component of modern bulk power networks. The execution of HVDC projects requires specialised engineering capabilities, complex system integration, detailed planning and close coordination across multiple stages of project delivery.

The Power Grid awards follow JSL's recent Rs.6.90 billion order from Gujarat Energy Transmission Corp. Ltd (GETCO) for the 765 kV DC Pachchham-Saykha transmission line project in Gujarat.

The company is also executing a 220 kV double-circuit transmission line project in Sri Lanka in partnership with Hayleys Fentons Ltd to support the evacuation of wind power to the country's national grid.
