The Union Cabinet approved the Rs.1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund on 1 July 2025, and the Fund was formally launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 3 November 2025.
During FY 2026, the Technology Development Board (TDB) and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) were approved as Second Level Fund Managers (SLFMs) under the Focused Research Organisations (FRO) category. Further, Rs.500 crore was disbursed to TDB in March 2026 for investment in eligible technology entities. So far, TDB has approved 22 projects with a total project cost of Rs.4,744 crore, including RDIF support of Rs.2,192 crore. BIRAC has also shortlisted e...
