India, Dec. 13 -- MNIT Jaipur has crossed a new milestone in the development of lightweight armor for combat vehicles as reported by Prof. Amar Patnaik, Mechanical Engineering Department, MNIT Jaipur. These armors could replace the present heavy steel plates used in ordnance vehicles and increase the manoeuvrability of the vehicles by the weight reduction.

A multi-institutional project led by Prof. Amar Patnaik, MNIT Jaipur and comprising several eminent institutions like NIT Uttarakhand, ARCI, NITRA, DRDO-TBRL and industries like SMPP and OFMK had been sponsored by NTTM, Ministry of Textiles, a few years back to meet the challenges faced by the threat of small calibre ammunitions.
