Will West Bengal get its second IIT? Government to seek IIT status for IIEST Shibpur
Kolkata/IBNS, July 14 -- The West Bengal government will soon submit a proposal to the Centre seeking the upgradation of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar announced on Monday, according to media reports.
Majumdar said the proposal would be sent by the newly elected BJP government in the state as part of its efforts to strengthen higher education and technical institutions in West Bengal.
