India, May 6 -- Southern superstar-turned-politician Vijay, on Wednesday, met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked a claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu, days after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, emerged as the single largest outfit, ending the rule of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Despite securing the highest number of seats, TVK fell short of a clear majority.

The party won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly and requires 10 more to cross the majority mark of 118.

Vijay will now have to prove his majority on the floor of the House.

However, even with Congress's five seats, the party remains short of the majority mark.
