India, Sept. 25 -- DMK president M.K. Stalin has rejected allegations that his government attempted to protect granite businessman R. Veeramani in the POCSO case involving alleged sexual abuse of minor girls, saying no order was issued by the previous administration to shield anyone.

Stalin said Veeramani, those accused of facilitating the alleged offences and anyone found to have protected them should face the law and receive the maximum punishment, regardless of their position.

The statement comes amid an escalating political confrontation between the DMK and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) over the handling of the case.
