Noida/IBNS, April 14 -- Violent protests by workers in Noida have led to a breakthrough, with the Uttar Pradesh government announcing revised minimum wages across categories on Tuesday, according to reports. 

The wage hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from April 1.

Protests turn violent

Tension flared in Noida's Phase 2 area on Monday as a workers' protest demanding higher wages spiralled into violence.

The agitation was led by employees from the Hosiery Complex in the industrial hub.

A heavy police deployment was rushed to the area, and tear gas shells were used to disperse the crowd.
