India, July 24 -- The United States has imposed new double-digit tariffs on nearly 60 trading partners, including India, China, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, alleging that they have failed to adequately enforce bans on goods produced through forced labour.

The new duties, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, will take effect on Friday, replacing the temporary 10% tariff on foreign goods that was introduced earlier this year, according to a BBC report.

The move marks the latest escalation in the global trade conflict reignited under President Donald Trump's administration.

Earlier this year, the US Supreme Court ruled that many of the tariffs imposed globally under emergency powers had been enacted unlawfully.
