India, March 23 -- US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to planned military strikes targeting Iran's power plants and energy infrastructure, citing progress in recent diplomatic engagements.

In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Washington had conducted "very good and productive" discussions with Tehran over the past two days.

He described the exchanges as "in-depth, detailed, and constructive", suggesting a shift from confrontation towards dialogue.

Trump said he had directed the Department of Defence to suspend "any and all military strikes" for a five-day period.
