India, March 14 -- US President Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that American forces had carried out a major bombing raid targeting Iranian military facilities on Kharg Island, a key oil export hub in the Persian Gulf.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the United States Central Command had executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East.

Trump added that the United States deliberately avoided striking the island's oil infrastructure.

"Our weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the world has ever known but, for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the oil infrastructure on the island," he said.
