India, June 12 -- US President Donald Trump on Friday accused Iran of carrying out a drone attack on Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz and described the incident as "totally unacceptable."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Their (Iran's) totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is totally unacceptable."

The claim comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following attacks on commercial vessels near Oman.

Earlier this week, three ships carrying Indian crew members came under attack off the Omani coast.

In one of the incidents involving the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello, three Indian seafarers were killed.
