India, Sept. 22 -- A five-day-old girl died after a fire broke out at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad, Telangana, on Monday.

According to reports, the fire is suspected to have been caused by an explosion in an air-conditioning unit at around 11.40 am.

The blaze quickly filled the ward with thick smoke, prompting hospital staff and fire personnel to evacuate the infants.

Three security personnel are also reportedly undergoing treatment.

Firefighters rushed to the hospital and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the facility.
