TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy quits party as Mamata Banerjee's grip on parliamentarians appears to slip
New Delhi/IBNS, June 8 -- Amid former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to Delhi for an INDIA bloc meeting, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy on Monday resigned from the post as well as the party, deepening the crisis within the outfit following its defeat in the recent Assembly elections.
Roy's exit comes amid growing speculation that Mamata Banerjee may be losing her grip over the party's parliamentarians, mirroring the rebellion that has already surfaced within the Trinamool Congress legislative wing in West Bengal.
Announcing his resignation, Roy said he was among several leaders who had been sidelined within the party and accused the leadership of failing to understand public sentiment.
