Salem, Sept. 21 -- As the boundaries between engineering disciplines disappear, young engineers must prepare to work across disciplines, experiment, prototype and solve real-world problems, Mizoram Governor General V. K. Singh (Retd.) said at the 5th IE(I) Engineering Education Excellence Summit & Awards 2026 in New Delhi on September 19.

Speaking at the summit, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) [IE(I)], General Singh said the scale of what India had already built should give young engineers confidence, while also placing a responsibility on them for what comes next. Engineering education, he suggested, should give greater importance to practical exposure, design thinking, prototyping and interdisciplinary projects.
